In each issue of e-VOLVE we shall take the opportunity to share with you a success story from a business somewhere in the UK that can act as an inspiration and demonstrate that you can take control of your own destiny.

We are looking for nominations from you, the readers, for our ingenuityAWARD. This could be an idea or innovation that you have introduced to your business, or one that you have come across during the course of your work or during leisure time.

Soletrader, partnership, small limited company, UK plc or international conglomerate … success comes in all shapes and sizes.

What do you need to know?

ARE YOU MASTER OF YOUR OWN DESTINY?

At a business lunch last week I was speaking to a gentleman who had taken a long hard look at his career, then totally reshaped it to become what he wanted it to be.

Most of us fit our social time around our work, but this guy had done the opposite. He wanted to split his leisure time between two locations, a few hours drive apart, and wanted the freedom to enjoy it. He then went on to target clients in both locations and has built a successful business which fits into his chosen life structure.

A lucky man? A brave man? Certainly a happy man, and it would appear ‘Master of his own Destiny’.

Maybe we can’t all afford that luxury, we can’t all transform our careers in such a radical way. However one thing is certain, if you know what you want to achieve you are much more likely to achieve it. We must all write our own definition of success.

So take a look around you. Do you know any companies or individuals who have achieved their goals? If so please let us know, and remember… success comes in all shapes and sizes.

A business can nominate itself or a fellow business.

Nominate a business for the ingenuityAWARD

ingenuityAWARD

For me the winner of an ingenuityAWARD has to be the creator of something which makes my life easier.

Sitting in a queue for a car wash with two bored children on the back seat, is for me almost as bad as spending my Sunday scrubbing the car. And for this reason I would like to nominate the person, or persons, unknown who came up with the idea of placing a car wash team in the car parks of organisations that I visit.

When I lived in South London, my local Sainsbury’s had a team of car washers in the car park who were solely responsible for my cars weekly transformation from grime to shine. When I moved to North London, Tesco’s car park held an even greater attraction for me with the additional valet service.

So imagine my joy, after over a year of driving a horribly grubby car round Sheffield, on finding a team of saviours complete with buckets and window leathers in the car park at my Health Club, Esporta.
